“Our travels have developed over the years from just the two of us to now having a family with a home base in SoCal.”
If you told me back in 1995, when we got married in Ocho Rios, Jamacia, that we would eventually have a food and travel blog, we would have laughed outlaid at the thought. I believed I would always be a graphic designer and Don would always have a General Manager role. Never did we think either one of us would be a writer or a Glamp-A-Holic.
Prior to creating HalfWayThere Travels, I had been a Graphic Designer for 20+ years in Raleigh, NC and then moving to Myrtle Beach, SC and then again to Burbank, CA with Don’s job. Don was a Material Science Engineer from NC State University and had moved up the ranks, not to mention moved us around with his job 🙂
For twenty-two years we researched and wished and prayed for the perfect vintage trailer. We learned about different makes, compared styles and sizes, and even the type of vehicle we would need.
In 2016 we were excited to find a Craigslist posting about a 1963 Oasis travel trailer. We set up a time to met the couple that had purchased the “fixer-upper” project two months before from the family they grew up knowing from across the street. However, they told us that after the main projects were completed, they decided this “Glamping Thing” was not for them. So needless to say, we left there with our new project in tow.
Over the next few months, while making the upgrades and updates, we decided as a family that we would start out with a mission to travel to National Parks.
As we traveled, we discovered that we I started to choose places because of the family activities and the food.
We are honored that our writing can connect with a growing community of readers. We always try to share the good, the bad, the ugly, the ups and the downs, and the funny family stories that we have learned along the way.
As much as we try to plan ahead, these days it seems we are always off on a last minute adventure. If you are in need of a few ideas or even a bit of inspiration to get your travel plans going, please check out our Blog for a variety of places to visit.
